Helping your kiddos save more (+ are you a starter or a finisher?)
I've often joked that I could group everyone into 2 categories -- "starters" and "finishers". I have ALWAYS been what I consider a "finisher".
I love using the last of something and throwing it out. I love it when clothing is too small for my children so I can give it away. I will not stop until the task you give me is 100% finished. And you all know how much satisfaction I get from crossing those to-do's off my list.
Yup, I'm a finisher (so is Dave). Can you relate?
If not, you might be when I consider a "starter" -- you're creative and always brainstorming new ideas. You have 12 open bottles of salad dressing in your fridge... and yet, you'll still enjoy opening another one if there's a new flavor you want to try. You're spinning lots of "plates" and if one drops, you'll just pick up another one and start something new.
I've been convinced of this theory for years... and just this past week, I found a video clip of popular author, Gretchen Rubin, explaining this exact concept (I feel so smart now!) She describes the 2 personality types as "openers" and "finishers"... but I still like "starters" and "finishers". 😉
For the record: I think we have 3 starters and 1 finisher among our children.
Simple Food.
I don't know about you, but I often have trouble remembering to marinate the meat so many hours in advance (some recipes call for overnight marinating). Thankfully, I have a delicious 2-hour meat marinade that's one of my all-time favorites -- perfect when you're short on time.
Do you have upcoming wedding showers or housewarming parties? If so, consider a "pantry shower" as a great way to help the newlyweds or new homeowners fill up their pantry and avoid tchotchke gifts that just add clutter.
It can be difficult to teach children the benefits of saving versus spending, as immediate gratification is so much more appealing! If you're looking for a few fresh ideas to help your children (or grandchildren) to save more, I've got several for you in this post.
Mother's Day -- We spent a low-key day at home, which is exactly what I wanted. I prepped all our meals the day before, so I could just shove things in the oven, the kids gave me flowers from the yard, the weather was gorgeous, and I wore my "new-to-me" pinstripe dress (with pockets) that I recently acquired from a friend!
