FTA will host a listening session on Thursday, June 22 to gather feedback to guide the future design of buses, including redesigning bus compartments, the Bus Compartment Redesign Program and Bus of the Future initiatives. This virtual session will give stakeholders an opportunity to provide input to FTA to build upon its research into building better buses. This meeting is open to all, with a maximum of 250 participants, and registration is required. Topics to be addressed in the session include: - Operator and passenger safety
- Accessibility
- Bus component safety
- Reducing bus customization
- Emerging bus technologies
FTA will also use this stakeholder session to define research to improve safety and access for bus riders with disabilities. In 2020, FTA provided grants through the Bus Operator Compartment (BCP) Program to the International Transportation Learning Center and the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority to redesign a transit bus compartment to improve safety for operators. FTA staff will discuss the results of those projects and would like to hear from stakeholders as we continue to develop strategies for designing the bus of the future. Materials for the listening session, including questions for consideration, will be emailed to registered participants in advance. These materials will also be available online. FTA is committed to providing equal access to this listening session for all participants. If you need interpreter services, alternative formats, and/or other accommodations, please include this request in your registration or email Maria Roell. |
