Our first full week of summer break was a success!
We visited the local zoo, used a gift card to Red Robin, went to a minor league baseball game, cheered the boys to their 2nd-consecutive Little League championship, organized all the school gear/papers/artwork, accomplished tons of yardwork, enjoyed the pool + hot tub with neighbors and friends, introduced the kids to Home Improvement (the 90's TV show), and made/ate many yummy treats -- including the strawberry pie linked below.
Our Summer Plans:
In general, we don't have big plans.
The kids are participating in a variety of sports camps, we will continue piano lessons on an every-other-week basis, we plan to go out to eat roughly once per week (something we rarely do during the school year), we'll take part in our library's reading program, and the kids will alternate inviting a few friends over each week.
Also, for the past 3 summers, I've changed my cleaning routine so the kids can help out. ☺️ This year, Nora and James are cleaning bathrooms and folding laundry, Simon is doing all the vacuuming, and Clara dusts and wipes down the mirrors and windows (they choose their chores).
Dave does most of the yardwork, as well as manages the pool and hot tub. Simon also enjoys helping with many yard projects.
That leaves me to oversee the cleaning, keep the laundry moving, tackle any special projects, keep up with daily maintenance, and prepare lots of food.
It's been a good routine for our family these last few years, and it's amazing how quickly we can plow through our list when everyone helps out (my helpers aren't always as enthusiastic as I am, though!)
My Summer Blogging Plan:
I'm taking a break from sharing meal plans over the summer, but I plan to continue showing up in your Inbox every Wednesday morning with new/updated content to help simplify your home and life.
I hope you enjoy this week's content -- a few ideas to simplify your summer travel, and my most favorite strawberry pie!
