Here are the five insights you shouldn't miss this week: | | 1. Israel: Favorability Crashing Among Dems | | The Data: Fifty-four percent of Americans view Israel positively, but there are strong differences by political party — 83% of Republicans, 33% of Democrats and 48% of independents hold favorable views of the country. Comparative Context: Among 22 countries rated in February, Israel has middling favorability. Over 80% of U.S. adults view Canada, Japan, Great Britain and Denmark positively, while Iran, North Korea and Afghanistan have 15% favorability or lower. Israel has the largest partisan divide (50 percentage points), followed by Mexico (36 points). Views on All 22 Countries | 2. LGBTQ+ Identity Rises | | The Data: In 2024, 9.3% of U.S. adults identified as LGBTQ+, up by more than a full percentage point from 2023. Generational Shift: LGBTQ+ identity has nearly doubled since 2020, when it was 5.6%, and has almost tripled from 3.5% since 2012. More than one in five Gen Z adults (born 1997-2006) now identify as LGBTQ+, as do 14.2% of millennials (born 1981-1996), both substantially higher than the rates for older generational groups. Latest Story | 3. Media Ethics | | The Data: The percentages of Americans rating the honesty and ethical standards of news professionals as “very high” or “high” have dropped significantly in recent years. The Trend: Television reporters have seen the steepest decline, falling from 36% in 1981 to a record-low 13% in 2024. Newspaper reporters (17% in 2024) and journalists (19% in 2023) are rated slightly better than TV reporters but have followed a similar trajectory. More Media Findings | 4. Charity Slows Worldwide | | The Data: After peaking between 2021 and 2023, global charitable activities — such as donating, volunteering and helping strangers — declined significantly in 2024. Reports of helping a stranger in need dropped six points from 2023, and monetary donations and volunteerism both dropped four points. Across Incomes: Regardless of how people felt about their household income, fewer people — particularly those finding it very difficult to get by — reported making monetary donations in 2024. What Job Seekers Want | | The Data: U.S. employees rate the following as most important when choosing a new job: work-life balance and personal wellbeing, pay or benefits, stability and job security, and a job that allows them to use their strengths.
