Early this week, I wrote about how even if AI resulted in a massive boost in worker productivity, I would fight against it with every fiber of my being. But the thing is, most AI tools are actually shit. They do the things existing tech already did, but worse and at a higher cost (human, economic, and environmental). Tools like OpenAI, ChatGPT, and Meta AI rely heavily on humans who work in horrific conditions in less regulated parts of the world. Your AI tool doesn't know shit. It's a glorified autocomplete that only works because there's exploited people propping it up. Amazon's "Just Walk Out" stores, where you walk in, grab what you want, and leave without checking out because AI tracks it for you and automatically deducts your account? Yea, that wasn't AI. That was exploited people in India. Because again, your AI tool doesn't know shit. It's smoke and mirrors propped up by exploited people. "But Chris!" you exclaim, "I've used these tools. They let me code faster!" Earlier this year, a study found that these tools are actually wrong (particularly about coding questions) more than they're right. And over a third of the time, programmers don't even catch it.
And a study by Apple found that AI can't even do basic math. It's not calculating anything. It's just guessing. Because again, AI is shit. It's just glorified autocomplete propped up by exploitation. Cheers, Want to share this with others or read it later? View it in a browser. |
