June 2024 U.S. Airline Traffic Data Up 6.7% from the Same Month Last Year

U.S. airlines carried 89.7 million systemwide (domestic and international) scheduled service passengers in June 2024, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). When adjusted for seasonality, June enplanements are up 2.8% from May and reached a new all-time high the all-time high reached in June 2024.

BTS reported 77.2 million domestic passengers and 12.5 million international passengers on U.S. airlines flights in June, not adjusting for seasonality.

Two measures of U.S. airlines passenger enplanements

June seasonally adjusted

Systemwide enplanements (83.0M) reached a new all-time, seasonally-adjusted, high based on data through June 2024.
Domestic enplanements (72.3M) reached a new all-time, seasonally-adjusted, high based on data through June 2024.
International enplanements (10.73M) were down 3.7% from the all-time high of 11.13 million reached in February 2024.

June unadjusted

Systemwide enplanements (89.7M) reached a new all-time high for the month of June.
Domestic enplanements (77.2M) reached a new all-time high for the month of June.
International enplanements (12.55M) reached a new all-time high for the month of June.

Reporting Notes
Data are compiled from monthly reports filed with BTS by commercial U.S. air carriers detailing operations, passenger traffic and freight traffic. This release includes data received by BTS from 77 U.S. carriers as of September 5 for U.S. carrier scheduled civilian operations.

International totals in this press release consist of all U.S. carrier operations to and from the U.S. and from one foreign point to another foreign point. BTS' Airlines and Airports page does not include U.S. carriers' foreign point-to-point flights.

BTS has scheduled October 10 for the release of data through July.

None of the data are from samples. Measures of statistical significance do not apply to the complete air traffic data.

Missing carriers: TQ (Tailwind Air), JRQ (Kenai Aviation), and Vi (Vieques Air Link) did not report for June. 09Q (Swift Air) has gone out of business.
