Crypto Sponsorships In Sports

Soccer has been a primary target for crypto sponsorships since 2021. That year saw 9 new deals, followed by 10 in 2022, a sharp drop to just 3 in 2023, and a rebound to 10 in 2024.

How have other sports fared?

One of OpenAI's verified social media accounts was recently hijacked, and was used to promote a fake crypto token with the ticker $OPENAI.

Strangely enough, this is now the fourth time that Sam Altman's firm has fallen victim to these types of attacks.

In a now-deleted post, the compromised account encouraged users to claim the fake token through a malicious website, stating that the token's purpose was to bridge the gap between blockchain and AI.

Additionally, the post stated that users who claim the tokens will be eligible for all future beta programs.

To look more legitimate, comments on the post were also disabled.

The OpenAI team has since regained control of their X account.

Editor's Note:

It would seem that beyond smart contract exploits, even the biggest firms could easily lose access to their social media accounts. In such cases, it's imperative to identify when a post is real or a scam by hackers. Whether it's an airdrop or any deal that seems too good to be true, it usually is. The best way to stay safe is to avoid any and all interactions until the affected party has regained control.

Finding new apps on Farcaster πŸ”²

Warpcast, a client for the SocialFi protocol Farcaster, has launched its own version of mini-apps that utilize the platform's native Frames technology.

Similar to the Frames feature, which allows users to perform transactions directly on Farcaster, users can convert any Farcaster post into an application that functions within the platform.

Users can then launch different types of mini-apps, including games, tools, and other types of services.

Although the mini-apps are specifically built for Warpcast, they can be utilized across any other client or application developed on Farcaster.
