Another 15% Discord, Reddit, Farcaster, or more uncommon social media such as 4chan, WhatsApp, DeBank etc. | | | Mc-rugged 🍔 A crypto hacker was able to take off with over $700K worth of funds after hacking the official Instagram page of McDonald's to promote their memecoin.
The hacker promoted their token which was based on one of McDonald's mascots, GRIMACE, through a series of posts, which also included the token's contract address.
According to blockchain analytics firm Bubblemaps, the attacker used pump.fun to accumulate 75% of the token supply before dividing it into more than 100 different wallets.
After the hacker posted about the token on Instagram, the market cap of GRIMACE rose from thousands of dollars to a peak of $25M in half an hour.
Soon after, the hacker proceeded to sell their entire stack of GRIMACE, causing the market cap to plunge by 99% to just over $280K today.
