The world's first tokenized church π Tokenized real estate has been around for a while, but how about a tokenized church? In an effort to purchase the house of worship for $2.5M, a community of church groups known as the 'Colorado House of Prayer' have decided to tokenize their main chapel.
The person in charge of the tokenization project, pastor Blake Bush, stated that a higher power had 'spiritually guided' him to take advantage of blockchain technology to help fulfil the group's mission.
Based on a report by Forbes, the group is currently renting the building, known as the 'Old Stone Church', from the owner who had purchased it for $2.2M back in 2022.
As such, the group is planning to launch Stone Coin, a digital token that will be used to raise money for the church.
The token itself is currently affiliated with the REtokens platform and will be deployed on the Polymesh private blockchain.
The project has apparently raised more than half of its goal and is actively looking for more investors.
Editor's Note: While there is merit behind acquiring a piece of real estate as a more efficient way to get exposure to rental income, it doesn't really work the same way if it's purchased for personal use or, in this case, used by the churchgoers. This arrangement also doesn't benefit external parties and non-parishioners. |
