She Repaid Them the Best Way She Knew How | Susan Roberts of Red Lodge, MT watched her home crumble when floodwaters from the nearby Rock Creek swept into the basement. The next morning, 20 people showed up to help muck it out and recover her belongings—and kept at it for the next three months. "People would not take no for an answer. If I was like, 'Oh, we're OK now,' they'd be like, 'No, I'm gonna do something," says Roberts. She was so moved that she decided to nominate Red Lodge for 2023's Nicest Places in America feature, which celebrates places all over the country where good things happen thanks to good people.
