This will be our home for the next couple of weeks...
We're not a TV-watching family, but March Madness has always been Dave's thing... apparently, now it's our kids' thing. 🏀
I don't give two hoots about college basketball, BUT, as my mind mulled over sports analogies this past week, I realized how important both "offense" and "defense" are for our homes and lives.
Examples of "Offense"
Renovating an area of your home.
Finishing the organizing project that's been on your list forever.
Paying off a big debt.
Mastering a new skill.
Hosting a big holiday event.
Offense is fun, exciting, and flashy -- "Instagram-worthy" events you can give yourself a nice pat on the back for officially crossing off your list.
Examples of "Defense"
Daily rhythms of laundry, dishes, and bathrooms.
Picking up shoes and toys for the umpteenth time.
Small monthly auto-deposits into a long-term savings account.
Weekly meal planning and food prep.
Working through a disagreement with your spouse.
A late-night chat with your teen.
Defense is less note-worthy. It's probably not going to make the highlight reel, you won't get the MVP award, but it's crucial to a well-functioning home, family, and team.
As the popular saying goes: "Offense wins games; Defense wins championships."
Both are necessary. Both are good. Both get us closer to our goals.
But offense sure feels more fun most days.
When we feel discouraged in our "daily grind", we must remind ourselves of the importance of defense (maintenance) as we strive to wisely steward our homes, our families, and our lives!
Simple Food.
It's rhubarb season... one of my favorite frugal, easy-to-grow fruits, and I have so many delicious recipes to use up this early spring treat!
The hardest part of any organizing project is GETTING STARTED!
Can you relate? If so, I'm sharing 50 things you can declutter without much extra thought or decision-making and get your momentum moving in the right direction.
The dress you wore for half a day, doesn't need to take up space in your closet for half a century! In this archived post, I share why I chopped up my wedding dress, along with several other ideas to repurpose a wedding dress (or bridesmaid or prom dress). There are more ideas in the comments too!
