On The Blog: The Power of ONE habit to transform your life. Happy New Year from the Dekker family! Thanks to my self-imposed Christmas break, it's been a few weeks since I popped into your inbox, and I noticed there are many new folks on my mailing list since last month. Welcome! I'm Andrea -- happy wife, mother of 4 middle-aged kiddos, farmhouse lover, organizing enthusiast -- and this is where I hang out on Wednesdays! In general, my weekly emails contain a bitesize nugget of information on each of the following 3 topics
And since I'm not on social media, I usually share a few family and life updates too. I love hearing from those of you on the other side of the screen, so click reply and introduce (or reintroduce) yourself! ๐ โ Simple Food. My favorite way to eat veggies in cooler months is to roast them. It's so easy to make a bunch at one time, and the flavors are amazing! Try my recipe --> Easy Oven-Roasted Veggies. โ Organized Home. As an email subscriber, you get FREE access to my Family Emergency Binder printables (download them here). This binder has been extremely helpful for our family, and I know thousands of you have already created your own binders using my free templates! It's a great New Year's project ๐ฅณ Learn more --> Create Your Emergency Binder. โ Intentional Living. Stop stressing about big New Year's resolutions and choose one healthier habit to create this year. I've been doing this for over a decade and it has transformed my life! This year, I wrapped our children's gifts in green craft paper and stacked them in the shape of a tree (they were on a wooden board resting on a small wooden stool). I made a numbered list of all the gifts and who they were for, then cut colored light bulbs out of construction paper and put one light bulb on each gift. The lights were numbered to correspond with my list, so no one knew who the gifts were for. We all agreed that it was even more fun than last year's snowmen gifts! It's funny how excited kids get about simple things I'd likely buy them anyway (cool socks, books, headphones, snow boots, swimsuits from Land's End clearance, etc.) I suppose everything is more fun when you get to anticipate it for a while! โ ๐ต Hail, to the Victors! Simon has been in his glory for the last month as he watched the University of Michigan football team go all the way -- an undefeated season, ending with the national championship earlier this week. โ ๐ถ All I Want for Christmas... Last year, James lost his 2 front teeth over Christmas break, and this year was Clara's turn. I promised her a $5 bonus if she got both teeth out before Christmas break was over... she rose to the challenge! ๐ฆท๐ฆท โ ๐ต Handprints On The Wall: My collection of Kindergarten handprints is now complete! Since our children were Kindergarten/Preschool age throughout COVID, I missed out on many of the classic parent gifts from one or more of the kids. I have 2 artwork plates, 3 Mother's Day bookmarks, 3 Christmas portrait ornaments, etc. but never a full set... It's a small "loss" compared to many, but having all FOUR handprints on display in our den makes my heart happy! ๐ฅฐ โ Weekly Meal Plan (sorry, no song title for this)
And... I made Dave's requested flourless chocolate cake. It was amazing!
Have a great week, and let me know if you've chosen a healthier habit for this year already. Andrea |
