1. Pride Stagnates in 2023

Line Chart: Americans' Views of the Morality of Same-Sex Relations, 2001-2023

For the first time since 2019, Americans' belief in the morality of same-sex relations decreased, albeit at a solid majority. Since 2015, the acceptance rate has remained at 60% or above — but the latest figure is down from last year's 71% record high.

One notable shift in our annual U.S. Values and Beliefs poll is a sudden decline in Republicans' views of the morality of gay or lesbian relations, coinciding with a renewed focus among party leadership on transgender rights and gender-affirming care.

3. Globally, Acceptance Rises

Line Chart: 52% of global residents say the city or area where they live is a good place to live for gay or lesbian people.

A bright spot in our polling is that the world is becoming a more hospitable place for those identifying as LGBTQ+. This year marks the first that over half of the world's citizens say their community is a good place to live for gay or lesbian people.

4. Quiet Quitting Takes Europe

It's a common stereotype/part truism that Europeans experience a different paradigm than Americans when it comes to balancing work with life. But one thing distinguishing the continent from others is that despite having the lowest employee engagement worldwide, Europe's workers are also very unlikely to leave their current job.

5. When Students Give the Grades

Heatmap: The Average U.S. Student Gives Their School a B- Grade

Now that grades are in and American students are on summer break, we wanted to see how students grade the schools they attend. While schools across the country don't get failing grades from their students, the scores certainly leave much to improve upon — particularly when it comes to getting students fired up about learning.
