Money Worries | | Half of U.S. adults express some level of worry about the safety of their hard-earned cash in banks and other financial institutions. The latest reading puts America on par with where it stood on the issue back in 2008. This follows last year's dip in Americans' confidence in banks to 27%, a figure we'll be updating soon. Taking Stock of America's Central Bankers | | When it comes to the person leading the charge at the Federal Reserve, Chair Jerome Powell gets his lowest marks yet after suffering a sharp decline in his confidence rating since 2020. Powell's rating is also the lowest reading Gallup has had for any prior Fed chair. Read Article | | 3. Debt Ceiling With a Crack … in Confidence | | Americans don't have a lot of confidence in those negotiating on the debt ceiling, either. As the various leaders with influence over that decision in Congress carry out their work, most Americans lack confidence in them to do the right thing for the U.S. economy. Read Article | | 4. Quitting My Country: Regional Edition | | One of the riskiest undertakings commonly attempted in our time is to permanently leave one's country of origin to make a home in another. We've been tracking global desire to migrate since 2011. Gallup's latest update shows that desire to migrate rose to decade-high levels in more than one region last year. | | 5. Clean Water in America | | In one of the wealthiest nations on the planet, three in four Black adults say they worry a "great deal" about pollution in their drinking water. From Flint, Michigan, to Jackson, Mississippi, predominantly Black communities have been at the forefront of the nation's reckoning on clean water.
