New On The Blog: A New Way to Approach Kids' Chores A Bag, A Box, and A Basket At a meeting last week, the woman sitting next to me commented on my neatly organized binder. She asked if my home was organized too and I said, "yeah, most of the time." She willingly admitted that her home was very chaotic and she wished she could get it under control but just didn't know where to start (yup, I've heard that before!) I suggested that she pick one smaller space and go in with a bag, a box, and a basket...
She lit up like I had just offered her free babysitting and a night out, and said she felt like she could do that. A few days later, she emailed me and said, "it worked -- I did it and I wasn't overwhelmed!" Then she said I should consider helping people get organized because I had really good and easy ideas. 😂 Getting started is always the hardest part... so I'd like to challenge you to pick one space in your home and fill up a bag, a box, and a basket. Think how much you could accomplish before next week's email! Simple Food. Although fresh-from-the-garden produce is still months away I'm enjoying my hand-picked (and then frozen) cherries and berries in smoothies, on oatmeal, and in this delicious fruit compote. It's like a burst of summer paired with yogurt and a little granola! Try my recipe --> Yogurt Parfaits with Fruit Compote Organized Home. We live in an instant-gratification society... it's one of the reasons we struggle with organization (the results are not instant). That said, there are a few immediate benefits I notice every time I better organize a space... maybe they will help motivate you too! I'm convinced that if our children feel a sense of ownership in the state of our home, and pride in working together as a family for one common goal, they will be more eager to help out around the house. Today, I'm offering a new approach to kids' chores -- if you've ever felt stressed out about chores, you'll want to stick around! Keep reading --> A New Way to Approach Kids' Chores In other news... Valentine's Day... we didn't plan anything special, but we ended up getting a dinner invitation to our favorite pizza buffet, and Simon (my camera-shy child) requested a picture with mom -- so all-in-all it was a good day! A New Recipe to Try: I'm planning to try this Cinnamon Swirl Croissant Loaf from Half-Baked Harvest this weekend. Lots of butter, but it looks amazing! A New Book Series: A friend recently recommended The Mysterious Benedict Society book series... and although it took me awhile to get into the first book (they aren't my normal reading style) I just loved it and am now very excited to start the 2nd book. A Quote to Consider: from Megan Francis. Blessings on the week ahead~ Andrea p.s. I really am curious to read your thoughts on kids' chores! |
