New on the Blog: Easy Oven-Roasted Vegetables I'm regularly asked for tips or ideas to help children part with their beloved treasures... one idea is to sell their cast-offs with a plan to use the money for a family reward. For example, last month, I asked our kids to go through all the dress-up clothing and costumes. We made piles for "trash", "donate", and "sell". I then posted the "sell" items on Facebook Marketplace the first week of October (hoping it would be a good month to sell costumes). By limiting the focus of our project (only costumes and dress-up clothing) no one felt overwhelmed, and the restaurant reward was a great motivator. NOTE: if selling isn't your thing, offer to "buy" items from your children and put the money towards a night out (then simply donate the items). We'll do something similar next month with toys and games -- clearing out the old to make room for potential new Christmas gifts (although Dave and I are contemplating an "experience gift" this year -- we'll see how that plays out!) Let me know if you try this decluttering idea with your children or grandchildren -- I love hearing "success stories!" Simple Food. It's been 4 years since I embarked on my journey to "eat as many vegetables as possible"... and looking back, it's amazing how effortlessly I now integrate vegetables into every meal. Roasted vegetables are still my go-to side dish for almost any meal -- they are SO easy to make in bulk and reheat later (I share all the details in this week's updated post!) As you begin thinking about holiday gifts and decluttering for the New Year, I encourage you to re-read this gem of a post from the archives... your stuff might be "costing" you more than you realize. Seriously! Keep reading --> The true cost of our stuff. Intentional Living. Holiday parties are usually something I look forward to each year. But before I head out the door, I always take a few minutes to think through various conversation starters -- especially these days when SO many topics are "taboo". If you'd like some ideas, check out my list of fun conversation starters (I've got one for adults and one for kids!) Learn more --> Fun conversation starters! In other news... I ordered Clara's 4-year-old photo book and it should arrive this week. After almost 17 years of making digital books, the best tip I have for always finding great discount codes is to create my book(s) and have them 100% ready to print... and then simply wait for a discount coupon to show up in my email. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a one-day flash-sale coupon for 50%-off last week. Since Clara's book was ready to print, I simply uploaded and ordered it immediately! Football is finished for the season and we suddenly have our weeknights and Saturday mornings back! Wow, what a lot of driving and sitting on bleachers for a 3rd-grader. I'm not sure I'm cut out to be a "sports mom"... I'm so thankful we delayed extra-curricular activities as long as we did! Frugal Fall Fashion: I ordered a few new Fall items from ThredUP (affiliate link). I've been buying used clothing from ThredUp for almost 11 years now and I continually have great luck with their "final sale" items, most of which are less than $10 per item. I also like using their "Thrift the Look" feature. All I do is click on an outfit combination I like and then, voilà, ThredUp automatically shows me similar items from their site. It's so easy for my fashion-challenged self! Use this link to get $10 off your first purchase! Holiday Prep: I'm always in favor of giving our children used gifts -- assuming they are in good condition and something the recipient actually wants 😉. I'd love to know your thoughts on the subject. Are you a used-gift-giver or not? Enjoy your week... and don't forget to try my yummy roasted veggies! ~ Andrea p.s. one more fun costume picture from 2017 -- these costumes sold too! |
