Cryptocurrency Yet to Go Mainstream | | As the market fluctuates in fits and starts and cryptocurrencies take a dive, our latest analysis of what Americans view as the best long-term investments offers insight into why cryptocurrencies still struggle to gain traction with the masses. Real estate remains the most attractive long-term investment for Americans. Stocks and gold are in distant second. Read Article | | 2. Is COVID Still a Big Deal? | | Despite a recent rise in COVID-19 infections across the U.S., public anxiety about getting the bug has remained fairly low. As recently as January, half of Americans expressed worry about getting COVID, whereas today less than a third are worried. With so many Americans now having contracted the virus, this lower level of concern could be a key indicator of how this pandemic shifts into an endemic phase across the U.S. Read Article | | 3. Turks' Suffering Hits a New High | | Amid the throes of a massive economic crisis coupled with a currency meltdown, more Turks now than ever rate their lives poorly enough to be considered suffering. A recent economic powerhouse in the region, Turkey now has a majority of its residents reporting that they are finding it difficult to get by on their current income. Nearly six in 10 say they were unable to afford food at times in the past 12 months, and a similar percentage say they do not have confidence in their government. Read Article | | 4. Concern Over Race Relations Remains High in America | | Just before the horrific attack on a predominantly Black community in Buffalo, New York, our latest research highlighted how Americans' worry over the state of race relations remains at the elevated level seen over the past five years. While slightly down from last year, worry remains much higher than in the years before the circumstances surrounding the deaths of young Black men like Eric Garner, Michael Brown and Tamir Rice garnered national attention. Concern is up among all groups, but the gap between White (39%) and Black adults (74%) has never been larger. Read Article | | 5. Philippines: New President, Old Name, Same Problems | | Filipinos elected a new president with a familiar name — Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Although new to the office, the president-elect will face the stubborn challenges that also troubled his father's dictatorship. A majority of Filipinos tell Gallup they are finding it difficult to get by on their current household income, but most concerning are perceptions of local safety. Young Filipinos (aged 15 to 29) feel the least safe of any age group, largely because just half of women (51%) in this age group say they feel safe walking alone at night in their neighborhood.
