THE CRITERION COLLECTION JUNE 10, 2021 Melvin Van Peebles: Four Films We are thrilled to announce our latest box set, a celebration of director, writer, composer, actor, and one-man creative revolutionary Melvin Van Peebles, who jolted American independent cinema to new life with his explosive stylistic energy, radical formal innovation, and unfiltered expression of Black consciousness. Showcasing the staggering range of his artistry and his subversive approach to genre, Melvin Van Peebles: Four Films presents new 4K restorations of The Story of a Three Day Pass, Watermelon Man, Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song, and Don't Play Us Cheap. Coming this September, this collector's set features an original cover portrait by legendary artist Emory Douglas and hours of special features, including commentaries, documentaries, and new and archival interviews, plus Baadasssss!, a chronicle of the production of Sweet Sweetback made by Van Peebles' son, Mario Van Peebles.
