The idea that data always lead to better analysis is nothing but a common misconception, says SEJ's Roger Montti, and a new category of SEO tool offering "SERP Analysis" is promoting this outdated concept. Webpages ranked at the top of search results might share similar attributes, but those attributes are not what's causing those pages to rank. "Some of these tools will analyze more than the top ten of the search results. They may analyze the top 30 and higher," Montti says. "But more data does not translate into better analysis. The idea that more data will yield a better analysis is a common misconception."
