CĂ©line and Julie Go Boating

Working in close collaboration with his stars and coconspirators Juliet Berto and Dominique Labourier, Jacques Rivette rewrote the rules of cinema in the spirit of pure play, creating one of the most inventive films of the French New Wave.

Special Features: A two-part feature documentary on Rivette by Claire Denis, interviews with Rivette and the cast, audio commentary by critic Adrian Martin, and more.

Touki bouki

Djibril Diop MambĂ©ty's debut feature brings a stunning mix of surrealism and naturalism to its picaresque tale of young lovers on the run, demonstrating the director's commitment to telling African stories in new ways.

Special Features: A short film by MambĂ©ty, interviews with filmmakers Abderrahmane Sissako and Martin Scorsese, and a conversation between filmmaker Mati Diop and musician Wasis Diop.

Secrets & Lies

Born from a painstaking process of rehearsal and improvisation, Mike Leigh's Palme d'Or–winning tour de force of sustained tension and catharsis lays bare the emotional fault lines running beneath everyday lives.

Special Features: An interview with Leigh and composer Gary Yershon, a conversation between actor Marianne Jean-Baptiste and film critic Corrina Antrobus, and more.

Defending Your Life

Is there love after death? Acerbic everyman Albert Brooks finds a perfect balance between satirical bite and romantic-comedy charm as the writer, director, and star of this wonderfully warm and imaginative existential fantasy.

Special Features: A conversation between Brooks and filmmaker Robert Weide, an interview with theologian and critic Donna Bowman, and a program featuring interviews with Brooks and actors Lee Grant and Rip Torn.
