 The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) would like to extend our sincere thank you to everyone who provided feedback on or shared our Request for Information (RFI), "Shaping the Future of the Bureau of Transportation Statistics." The comment period, which included an extension to July 31, 2026, has now closed. We are grateful for the robust and deeply informative response from across the national transportation landscape. A Snapshot of Your Feedback We received 45 comments from across the transportation community, representing perspectives from state departments of transportation, regional planning bodies, freight carriers, commercial technology providers, industry associations, academic researchers, non-profit and research organizations, individual stakeholders, and federal partners. Our Next Steps While formal submissions are no longer being accepted, our work to digest your feedback is underway. As we look toward our 2026–2030 strategic horizon, our planned next steps include:
- Internal Deep-Dive Analysis: We are reviewing the comments to help evaluate our internal portfolios, technical capabilities, and operational priorities.
- Publishing a Summary Report: We plan to compile and publish a public summary report synthesizing the primary themes, technical friction points, and key recommendations gathered throughout this process.
- Future Stakeholder Engagement: We are exploring additional engagement opportunities to maintain an open, ongoing dialogue with stakeholders.
