 | The voice of the world in numbers | | | Dec. 16, 2025 | | | Welcome to Front Page, Gallup's indispensable intelligence distilled into five charts that give leaders the insights they need to make their most important decisions. | | | 1. Public Satisfaction With Healthcare Costs | | | | The Data: Sixteen percent of Americans say they are satisfied with the total cost of healthcare in the U.S., whereas 57% are satisfied with what they personally pay. Local-National Gap: Americans' satisfaction with U.S. healthcare costs has been low for over two decades, with no more than 30% of Americans ever satisfied. In contrast, satisfaction with personal healthcare costs has been consistently higher, ranging from 54% to 67% since 2001. The gap between the two measures has recently widened, as satisfaction with personal costs has held steady while satisfaction with U.S. costs has dipped to a new low. Read More | | | 2. Cost the 'Most Urgent' Health Problem | | | | The Data: In response to an open-ended question about the most urgent health problem facing the U.S., Americans most often cite issues with the healthcare system. Cost is mentioned by 29% and access by 17%, followed by the specific condition of obesity at 8%. The Trend: Since 2000, Americans have more often named healthcare system issues, primarily cost or access, than specific health conditions. Cost has frequently topped the list in recent years, with mentions of cost increasing far more than mentions of access since 2021. Read More | | | | | |
From the West Health-Gallup Center on Healthcare | Worry About Potential Changes to Benefits | | | | The Data: About six in 10 U.S. adults say they are more concerned today than a year ago about possible changes to Medicare (58%) and Social Security (61%) benefits. More Detail: In addition, Americans with greater healthcare needs — like managing multiple chronic conditions or taking several prescriptions — are more likely to say they feel more concerned this year than last. 3. ACA Approval at Record High | | | | The Data: Americans' approval of the 2010 Affordable Care Act has edged up to a new high of 57%. The Trend: Gallup has tracked approval of the ACA since November 2012. The current rating is up three percentage points from last year and surpasses the prior high of 55% in both 2017 and 2020. Approval has remained at or above 50% in most years since 2017, following lower support ranging from 37% to 48% in earlier years. Latest Data | | | 4. Majority View System as Broken | | | | The Data: Seventy percent of Americans say the U.S. healthcare system either “is in a state of crisis” (23%) or “has major problems” (47%). While the combined figure is consistent with the long-term trend, the percentage calling it a crisis has reached a new high. Partisans Agree: While partisan evaluations have shifted with political control, large majorities of all party groups express concern. In 2025, 81% of Democrats, 66% of Republicans and 64% of independents say the healthcare system is in crisis or has major problems. Latest Story | | | 5. Broad Support for Federal Funding | | | | The Data: Nearly three in four Americans (73%) believe the federal government should provide funding to hospitals to cover medical expenses for uninsured patients, while 25% disagree. Nuance: Support narrows when respondents are offered more detailed response options, allowing them to say whether they believe federal funding should cover uninsured patients living in the country illegally or only those who are legal U.S. residents. Given these choices, just 33% say funding should cover all patients, including those living in the country illegally, while the slight majority (51%) support limiting funding to legal U.S. residents without health insurance. Another 14% say the government should not fund hospital care for any uninsured patients. Read More | | | | | |
