The Dahlias above came out of a friend-from-church's garden on Monday (just 2 days ago!) So much beauty left in our Michigan October!
Do you hear that?
It's the sound of silence...
As of last night, the Dekker family's crazy 6-ish weeks of fall busyness have ended. We officially have no regular after-school or evening commitments on our calendar for the foreseeable future! 🥳
It was a fun busy season, but still busy, and I'm glad to be on the other side of it.
We can mostly lie low and spend our evenings at home until the holiday busyness ramps up (which is also fun in its own way).
In the meantime, I hope to enjoy a quieter schedule, an earlier bedtime, and more time at home!
Whether you're in the middle of a very busy season or you're lying low at home, I hope my ideas and tips help you thrive in your homemaking efforts this week!
simple food. Meal planning is just another tool that can help to simplify your life OR leave you with unnecessary stress and guilt. Want a more realistic meal planning approach -- one that actually works FOR you? I can help!
organized home. Regular seasonal maintenance helps our homes run more smoothly all year long, but sometimes it's hard to know where to start. I'm sharing 10 ways we prepare for fall... which might be a helpful list for you, too. Your "next spring self" will thank you for tackling these home and yard projects now versus waiting until later!
intentional living. A simple "secret" to good time management is not to bite off more than you can chew… right? Easier said than done! Let me teach you how my favorite time management "tool" could help you actually finish your to-do list in less time, with less stress!
In other news...
Favorite Fall Yard Tools: Our family (and our yard) has greatly benefited from acquiring a light-weight battery-powered blower that the kids and I can easily use to blow off the pool deck, the driveway, various paths, or even to blow leaves into piles this time of year. Dave's gas-powered backpack blower is ridiculously heavy and hard to start, but even Clara can use our battery-powered blower. I also like this leaf rake as the tines "contract" for easier storage.
Festive Fall Scent: I rarely light candles throughout the year -- only between October and December. I start with my favorite Fall Harvest scent, then move into something warm and vanilla-y over the Christmas season.
Fun Fall Snack: I recently enjoyed "Candy Apple Nachos" at a women's event at our church. Possibly a little messy for young kids, but definitely easier to eat than a full Caramel Apple. The idea is that you use thin apple slices as your "chips", which you then drizzle with hot fudge or caramel, and top with candy bits. They were delicious and a fun fall treat!
