State of the World’s Emotional Health report shares insights on global emotions

How the World Feels | | | | The Data: In 2024, 39% of adults worldwide reported experiencing a lot of worry the previous day, 37% reported stress, 32% physical pain, 26% sadness and 22% anger. The Trend: While most experiences of negative emotions are receding from their pandemic-era highs, all are still higher than they were a decade ago. Read the Report | | | 2. Gender Divide | | | | The Data: Globally, women continue to report higher levels of sadness than men (28% vs. 24%, respectively). A similar pattern appears for worry (41% vs. 37%), physical pain (34% vs. 30%) and anger (24% vs. 20%). Positive Emotions: Positive daily experiences are broadly shared. Women and men report nearly identical levels of feeling enjoyment, learning or doing something interesting, smiling or laughing, and feeling respected. Explore Gender Gaps | | | 3. Age Gaps | | | | The Data: Age also plays a role in experiencing daily emotions. Adults younger than 50 are more likely than those aged 50 and older to report feeling angry. Stress peaks among adults aged 30 to 49, while older adults (aged 50+) report more sadness. Positive Emotions: Positive daily experiences vary by age, with younger people standing out for higher enjoyment, laughter and learning. Older adults report fewer positive emotions overall, although feeling treated with respect remains high and nearly uniform across all age groups. See Full Report | | | 4. Hotspots for Daily Anger | | | | The Data: In 2024, daily anger reached a record high in Chad, where 47% of residents said they experienced anger a lot the previous day. Jordan (46%), Armenia (43%) and Northern Cyprus (42%) followed close behind. Country Context: Active conflict, recent wars, or ongoing political and economic instability are common themes in these countries. See All Emotion Ratings | | | 5. Where Laughter Runs High | | | | The Data: Joy can still be found in the world. Nearly three in four adults worldwide (73%) said they smiled or laughed a lot the previous day.
