Shorting Capitalism | | | | The Data: A slim majority of Americans (54%) now say they have a positive image of capitalism, down from 60% in 2021. The Trend: Favorability toward capitalism has declined by seven percentage points since 2012, while views of socialism (39% positive) have remained fairly steady for over a decade. Read More | | | 2. Democrats' Fading View of Capitalism | | | | The Data: For the first time, less than half of Democrats (42%) view capitalism positively, while a steady 66% view socialism favorably. The 24-point gap in their positive views of socialism versus capitalism is the widest yet. Party Differences: Democrats' and independents' positive ratings of capitalism have fallen by eight points since 2021, while Republicans' rating has remained just over 70%. Democrats are more favorable toward socialism today than they were in Gallup's initial 2010 reading, while Republicans are less favorable and independents' view hasn't changed. Read More | | | 3. They're Baaack (at the Office) | | | | The Data: Just 28% of federal employees now work hybrid schedules, down from 61% in late 2024. Evolving Acceptance of Moral Issues | | | | The Data: Public acceptance has increased since Gallup's initial readings for a majority of the moral issues measured this year, led by a 24-point rise in support for gay or lesbian relations (now viewed as “morally acceptable” by 64% of Americans). More Context: Acceptance has increased the most on issues tied to sexuality and family structure, including divorce (+16 points), sex outside of marriage (+15) and polygamy (+14). Full List | | | 6. Static Views of Moral Issues | | | | The Data: Acceptance of some issues hasn't changed much since Gallup's initial readings.
