| The voice of the world in numbers | | July 1, 2025 | | | Welcome to Front Page, where we break down Gallup's latest insights on our constantly evolving world. Here are the five insights you shouldn't miss this week: | | 1. Proud to Be an American? | | The Data: In a poll conducted before the United States' June 22 strike on Iranian nuclear sites, 58% of U.S. adults said they are “extremely” or “very proud” to be an American. That's a record low in Gallup's trend dating back to 2001. Looking Back: Prior to this year, the lowest figure recorded was 63% in 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic and civil unrest following the police killing of George Floyd. Even that measure was well below the heights of American patriotism that Gallup recorded in the post-9/11 years of 2002 to 2004, when nine in 10 U.S. adults said they were proud to be American. New Data | | | 2. Record Lows Among Democrats, Independents | | Party Gap: The 36% of Democrats who say they are extremely or very proud to be an American is a new low. This is the second time in Gallup's trend that less than 50% of Democrats have expressed extreme pride, following a 42% reading in 2020; their high point was 92% in 2002. Republicans' patriotism has generally stayed high, ranging from 84% to 99% since 2001. Independents Ahead of Independence Day: Slightly more than half of U.S. independents (53%) say they are proud to be an American, also a new low for that group. The prior low was 60% in 2024. Then and Now: Gallup's Economic Confidence Index sits at -14, well below the net-positive figures recorded in President Donald Trump's first term in office. However, the latest score is among the highest Gallup has measured since 2021. Full Story | | | 4. GOP Economic Faith Highest Since October 2020 | | The Data: Republicans' confidence in the economy is at its highest point since October 2020, before Trump's defeat in that year's election. Although Democrats' and independents' confidence scores have improved slightly since May, they remain highly negative. Context: As expected, economic confidence differs greatly between those who identify with the incumbent president's party and those who identify with the opposition. Read More | | | 5.
