Add Google Actions & Highlights to your emails

Email Actions & Highlights are now available for all MailerSend users. This free Google feature makes your emails more visually engaging in the inbox, and improves the user experience by making one-click actions possible.

How you can use Actions & Highlights

Actions appear as interactive elements or CTAs in Google inboxes and on "chips" at the top of emails. You can enable these so that recipients can perform tasks with a single click. Think email address confirmations, package tracking, or flight check-ins.

Highlights extract key information from your emails, displaying it in a more visible and user-friendly format. Recipients can more quickly find what they're looking for, whether it's event details, accommodation booking information, or flight details.

    How to get started

On the MailerSend side of things, you only need to add the relevant structured data to your emails. You can add this to a template or to the HTML of your API call.

But before your Actions and Highlights will appear, you'll need to be approved by Google. This involves ensuring that you follow Google's guidelines, sending them a test email, and registering.

You can find out more about Google Actions and Highlights and how it improves your transactional emails by hitting the button below. Or, you can check out our guide to getting started for the full details and steps on how to enable the feature.

How to get started with email threading

For basic emailing back and forth between 2 participants, email clients will automatically group messages into a single thread to keep the conversation organized.

But an organization's email often encompasses multiple platforms, inbound routes, and agents, meaning that an email threading solution is needed to ensure that mail clients and apps link related messages.

How to implement threaded email conversations

Let's say you want to build a ticketing system that uses email threading. This will involve configuring inbound routes to manage workflows, and using specific email headers so that mail clients can construct the conversations in the inbox.

The main headers you'll need to use are:

      • Subject: The subject line of the original email, sometimes prefixed with 'Re:'
      • Message-ID: The unique ID of each message
      • In-Reply-To: Defines the ID of the original email that started the thread

To create a thread, you simply need to capture the Subject and Message-ID from the inbound data and then add this to your reply, setting the Subject as the same, and the In-Reply-To header with the Message-ID.

Check out our guide for the steps and an example, plus other considerations when setting up email threading.

How to validate emails in your Node.js app

By using an email verification API, you can validate emails beyond a simple syntax check, verifying MX records, checking for an SMTP response, and identifying disposable domains.

To do this, you'll need to implement server-side email verification in addition to your basic client-side regex validation.

Our guide to Node.js email validation goes through the steps of implementing regex validation, server-side verification for comprehensive verification, and bulk email verification scheduling. We've also included code examples to give you a headstart.
