Chilling effect

Undocumented immigrants are about 5% of the US workforce, but in industries like crop production, food processing and construction, they can account for up to 20%. These workplaces have become targets for ICE sweeps, straining both the employers who rely on this labor and the workers, some of whom stay home out of fear.

A Russian-born scientist and Harvard University researcher who was charged with smuggling frog embryos into the US has been released on bail. Colleagues and academics who testified on her behalf said Kseniia Petrova is doing valuable research to advance cures for cancer.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy occurs when stress hormones flood the heart, causing it to freeze. Known as broken heart syndrome, it's commonly caused by extreme emotional or physical events. One sex is more likely to die from it.
