Here are the five insights you shouldn't miss this week: | | 1. 2025 Trumps 2017 | | The Data: President Donald Trump's job approval rating averaged 45% in the first quarter of his second term, three percentage points higher than during the same period in 2017. Biggest Changes: Although still well below the majority level, Trump's approval ratings rose 15 points among Hispanic adults and nine points among non-Hispanic Black adults compared with early 2017. Younger adults (aged 18 to 49) also show higher support this term, while seniors are less favorable than in 2017. Trump's job rating has dropped the most among adults aged 65 and older (-6 points) and among liberal adults (-6). Deeper Analysis | 2. Economy, Healthcare Key Concerns | | The Data: Gallup asks Americans to rate their concerns about a variety of national issues each March as part of its Environment poll. Sixty percent of Americans now worry “a great deal” about the economy, and 59% worry about healthcare access and affordability — both up eight points from last March. Changes From 2024: Concerns about immigration (-8) have declined, while worries about Social Security (+9) and the environment (+6) are on the rise. Read More | 3. Canada Was Cooling on U.S. Leadership | | The Data: Canadian approval of U.S. leadership averaged 61% under U.S. President Barack Obama, dropped to 19% in Trump's first term, and averaged 41% during Joe Biden's presidency. Past Four Years: Although Washington's image north of the border improved to 55% in 2021, during Biden's first year in office, this boost was short-lived. Throughout the rest of Biden's administration, the majority of Canadians disapproved of U.S. leadership, which was not the case under the previous Democratic administration. Five Charts on Canada | 4. Burnout at Work | | The Data: Engaged employees are far less likely to feel burned out. About one in 10 engaged young workers — and even fewer engaged older workers — report frequent burnout when working less than 45 hours per week. Age Differences: Disengaged young workers are the most likely to report frequent burnout — highlighting age differences in workplace strain. However, among engaged employees, burnout levels are low across the board, and age gaps narrow significantly. Read Story | 5. Extreme Weather Hits More Americans | | The Data: Thirty-seven percent of U.S. adults say they've experienced an extreme weather event locally in the past two years — up from 33% in 2022 and 2023. Regional Breakdown: Wildfires (17%) top the list in the West, hurricanes dominate in the South (28%), tornadoes lead in the Midwest (10%), and floods and hurricanes are most common in the East (6% and 5%, respectively).
