A while back, I saw someone comment that people who say they have ADHD are…
Imagine saying that shit to someone who can't see because they have bad eyesight and don't have their glasses, or a person in a wheelchair confronted with stairs. Respectfully, go fuck yourself. ADHD isn't an excuse. It's an explanation. My failings aren't (always) personal. They're systemic. Existing with ADHD in a world built for neurotypicals is not unlike trying move through an inaccessible space in a wheelchair. You're not incapable. You're not untalented or lacking in skill. You're being actively hindered by an environment that was designed to work against you. So what you can do? Confidently, proudly ask for what you need. Don't apologize. Don't justify your needs or your existence. Ask for what you need. If you need some ideas, I've got a list of ADHD accommodations you can check out. I've also put together a list of things you can do without asking. I can't stress enough just how important this is. When you try to force your brilliant star-shaped peg into a round hole, you're fighting who you and how you work. Everything is harder. The moment you decide to really fucking own your ADHD is the moment you start to unlock your full potential. And it gets easier the more you do it. Like this?
