I'm not big on resolutions, but I do like to use the New Year as a time to revisit my goals, decide if they still make sense, and recalibrate a bit. Today, I wanted to share my goals for 2025… The goals2024 broke me in so many ways. For me, 2025 is about healing and recovery. With that said, my goals are…
If you're interested, I've added a bit more detail on each of these below. 1. Be a force of kindnessOver the last few years, I've felt myself growing more and more curmudgeonly. Last year, I took a goal of spreading more kindness in the world. It started off pretty good… but then the US election cycle started up, and I failed miserably. This year (and beyond) are going to be rough in a lot of ways. And while I will absolutely still rage against injustice, I also think one of the best ways I can impact positive change is by creating positive, safe communities for people—online and locally and IRL. On Bluesky I've started blocking people instead of engaging in online arguments. In the meat world, I've connected with like-minded folks to try to enact positive change in the town and broader region where we live. 2. Exercise dailyThis is another goal I also had last year that started off strong, then dropped off a cliff. I know that for me, I'm more likely to build healthy behaviors when they become habits. And I'm more likely to make a habit if I do something daily. This year, my daily exercise habit will look like a mix of…
This time of year is rough, because it's very much not gardening season where I live. Come warmer weather, I'll moving lots of heavy stuff around my yard as we continue to build out our enchanted wildflower garden and rewilding large parts of my yard. 3. Grow my education channelsOne of the things I'm most excited about now that I'm joining Nebula as a developer is having a bit of a mental break from worrying about the business of tech education. I can think about courses and YouTube content through the lens of…
Instead of…
I'm looking forward to coding and work being fun again! 4. Build my dream truck camperWe love to take extended long-distance trips around the US in our tiny camper. It's an amazing way to travel and explore and see all of the little places between destinations that you'd otherwise miss. Over the last three years, we've traveled to the end of the US Route 1 highway in Key West Florida, explored a cave system in Virginia, visited a turtle sanctuary and marine science center in Georgia, camped surrounded by giant bunnies that eat right out of your hand, and so much more. But towing a trailer sucks. It's hard to drive. Strong winds and gusts from big rigs can send you zigging and zagging. Every stop of the highway is a dice roll of "will I be able to turn around?" This year, I want to build out my dream truck camper rig. These have the driveability of "classic" RV, and more space than a trailer, but can be removed from the truck if you want. This was one of my goals a few years ago, but I had to shelf it for budget reasons. This year, I'm hoping I can make it a reality. What about you? What are your goals for 2025? Send me an email or ping me on social media and let me know. I'd love to hear from you! Cheers, Want to share this with others or read it later? View it in a browser. |
