Freight Analysis Framework Experimental County to County Commodity Flow Product Release 1/3/25Friday, January 3, 2025 The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) released the first version of county-to-county commodity flow dataset based on 2022 Freight Analysis Framework (FAF) commodity flows. This experimental product includes estimates of county-level freight tonnage for the year of 2022 for five commodity group and five modes. The five commodity types are aggregated based on the 42 original commodity code in FAF5.6.1. The four modes include truck/air, rail, water, multiple modes and mail, and pipeline. The experimental product includes two sets of files for users to test and explore:
The experimental downloadable product files, technical report, and user guide are available at https://www.bts.gov/faf/county. The state-specific files are designed for planners and researchers to conduct analysis of county-level freight flows in a region. The full set of disaggregation factors allow users to merge the datasets with the FAF data to create the county-level commodity flows for the whole country or for geographic areas of interest. WE WELCOME YOUR FEEDBACK ON THIS EXPERIMENTAL PRODUCT. We want to hear all feedback in how this product is useful in achieving your goals or how BTS can improve on this product.
