Most Americans Will Celebrate Christmas | | The Data: Over the past 30 years, a consistently high percentage of Americans have reported that they celebrate Christmas, with this year's 90% only slightly lower than the 96% first recorded in 1994. By Demographics: The 90% celebrating Christmas contrasts with the 68% of Americans who report identifying with a Christian faith, indicating other faiths partake in the holiday. Holiday Spending: Who's Splurging? | | The Data: Americans in the upper-income bracket, parents of minors, and Republicans are the biggest holiday spenders this year, with plans to spend over $1,200 on gifts. Spending Trends: This year's average anticipated holiday expenditure of $1,012 marks an increase from $975 in 2023. Read More | Bonus! 1950 Vault: Crosby Topped the Charts | | The Data: In 1950, the year that marked the debut of the “Peanuts” comic strip and the start of the Korean War, Bing Crosby was heralded as America's favorite crooner. He was named by 33% of Americans, while Perry Como was a distant second, mentioned by 6%. Top Male Singers: By 1950, Crosby's rendition of “White Christmas,” first recorded in 1942, had already become the bestselling Christmas song of all time. Other high-ranking artists, such as Dennis Day, Frank Sinatra, Nelson Eddy and Ezio Pinza, were all mentioned by 3% to 4% of Americans. However, as George Gallup noted, “considerable differences” were found by age.
