The native token of the Pudgy Penguins NFT collection, PENGU, has finally been released and airdropped to eligible users.
Almost half of the project's 88.88B token supply was distributed to NFT holders within the Pudgy Penguin ecosystem and other NFT communities, such as Mad Lads and Claynosaurz.
The token had seemingly gone live just a few minutes before users could claim their airdrop, causing the FDV of PENGU to surge to a mind-boggling $14T after early users scrambled to submit their bids.
However, after users began claiming their tokens, the price of PENGU quickly fell closer to its pre-market price of $0.068 and has continued to fall by over 51.5% to $0.033 today.
Although the Pudgy team has not commented on the token's utility, many users are speculating that PENGU will be utilized for governance and may play a critical role in the Abstract L2 ecosystem.
