But employers have a significant influence on employee wellbeing. Meaningful work plays an important role in a fulfilling life. Gallup's State of the Global Workplace report finds that 88% of engaged employees say they experienced a lot of enjoyment the previous day.

In an era of technological transformation, both employers and employees see the need for learning new skills. Yet, according to a new Gallup-Workhuman study, only 14% of U.S. workers say learning a new skill is one of the most common reasons employees are recognized in their organization.

Employee recognition may be an untapped strategy for upskilling organizations. When employees say learning a new skill is commonly recognized, they are 75% more likely to strongly agree that their organization encourages them to upskill and 56% more likely to strongly agree they are motivated to learn such skills.
