Crypto companies have racked up $32 billion in lawsuit settlements with US regulators from 2019 to 2024, with $19 billion in settlements recorded this year alone.
FTX & Alameda were charged with the highest amount ($12.7 billion), followed by Celsius ($4.7 billion), Do Kwon's Terraform Labs ($4.5 billion) and Binance ($4.3 billion). |

From Uniswap to Unichain ⛓️ Uniswap Labs, the creators of one of the most popular AMM DEXs, has announced its own Layer-2. Known as Unichain, the custom rollup will be part of the Optimism Superchain and will utilize Flashbots' Rollup Boost solution. According to the team, the network will be able to accommodate near-instant transactions with 1-second block times, and 250ms 'sub-blocks' will soon be introduced. Unichain will also launch its own decentralized validator nodes, where users can stake their UNI to earn a share of sequencer fees. The testnet for Unichain is currently open to developers, but no exact date has been specified yet for the network's mainnet launch.
Since the protocol's announcement, the price of Uniswap's native UNI token rose by 3.9% from $8.11 to $8.45 but has retraced the move.

Following in the footsteps of dYdX and Frax, we see even more protocols beginning to expand into their own app chains. While previous attempts have been underwhelming, perhaps things might be different for Uniswap. The protocol's presence across a vast array of chains should not be underestimated, but it remains to be seen whether users will still be interested in another Layer 2. |

Market makers marked πΉ From DeFi protocols to centralized exchanges, the SEC is now shifting its sights to crypto market makers. The US Securities and Exchange Commission has slapped crypto trading firm Cumberland DRW with various charges, among which they claim that the firm had operated as an unregistered dealer. According to the SEC, Cumberland handled and traded more than $2B worth of crypto assets, offering them to clients through investment contracts on crypto exchanges. In particular, the charges highlighted several assets that the SEC had earlier flagged as securities, such as Solana, Polygon, and Filecoin. In response, Cumberland posted a statement mentioning that business will continue as usual and that they are 'ready to defend themselves again,' |
