Young Women's Evolving Ideology | | The Data: Forty-one percent of U.S. women aged 18 to 29 identify as liberal, surpassing both their male age peers and women and men in older age groups. Political and Social Context: Young women's identification as politically liberal increased modestly between 2001 and 2014, at the same time significant societal and political events were occurring. However, it rose to a new high of 34% in 2015, after which it rose to as high as 44% (in 2020 and 2021) and is 41% thus far in 2024. Mirroring their heightened liberal self-identification, today's young women also hold more liberal views on specific issues, particularly the environment, abortion and gun laws. Most Unethical Behavior at Work Goes Unreported | | The Data: Twenty-three percent of U.S. employees say they have personally seen or have had first-hand knowledge of their colleagues or manager demonstrating unethical behavior in the past year. And less than half of employees (43%) who have had first-hand awareness of unethical behavior within their organization in the past year say they reported it. Reasons for Not Reporting: Among employees' top reasons for not reporting unethical behavior, 22% say they thought no action would be taken, 20% say they were afraid of retaliation, and 9% had previously reported a compliance or ethics issue and it was not a good experience. Which Party Best Serves Various Societal Groups? | | Democratic Edge: Majorities of Americans perceive the Democratic Party as better serving the interests of recent immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, labor union members, women, Hispanic people, the poor, Black people, and parents of minor children. Republican Edge: The Republican Party is seen as more favorable for wealthy people, business professionals and military veterans. New Data | 4. Confidence in Food Safety Has Crumbled | | The Data: Confidence in government food safety measures has declined, reaching a record low in Gallup's trend dating back to 1999. Fewer Americans also have less trust in the safety of food at grocery stores than they did five years ago. Grocery Stores: Confidence in the safety of grocery store food has fallen from 81% in 2019 to 72% today. Read Story | 5. Gallup Vault: Shedding Societal Constraints on Women's Attire | | The Data: In 1948, about two-thirds of U.S. adults (65%) thought it was fine for women to wear slacks at home, but only 32% approved of women wearing slacks in public. The Context: This survey followed a controversial decision by high school girls in Camden, New York, to wear slacks to school in 1947, challenging long-standing gender-attire norms and school policy.
