Specifically for Ethereum NFT trading, Blur remains in the lead (68.8% share this year); Magic Eden (50.4%) is slightly ahead of Tensor (49.6%) for Solana NFTs; for Bitcoin Ordinals, Magic Eden has emerged as the most popular (61.0%). | | | Not as bad as it seems 💸 The US Commodity Future Trading Commission (CFTC) has charged Uniswap for unlawfully offering leveraged trading products to US retail investors.
As a result, the protocol was slapped with a $175K fine and agreed to abide by the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA).
However, one of the top 5 commissioners of the CFTC, Summer Mersinger, spoke out against the agency's methods in handling the matter.
In his statement, Mersinger hoped that the commission would offer clear guidance for DeFi protocols rather than resort to 'regulation through enforcement,'
Mersinger also added that Uniswap had already halted trading on the relevant tokens, such as BTC2X-FLI and ETH2X-FLI.
Interestingly, the tokens named in the settlement were not issued by Uniswap but by another DeFi protocol, Index Coop.
In any case, the CFTC's order against Uniswap had little impact on the price of the protocol's native UNI token, which has fallen by 3.7% from $6.49 to $6.25 since the announcement.
Editor's Note: While major fines can definitely do a lot more to hurt the prices of tokens associated with the offending platforms, it seems that the crypto community has collectively agreed that a 6-figure penalty is a small price to pay, especially compared to the fees earned from their interface and wallet app. | | | Several bitcoin mining stocks have experienced a surge due to AI-related developments. The latest iteration of the malware, known as AngelX, has already been used to deploy hundreds of malicious apps since its launch on August 31.
According to blockchain security firm Blockaid, some of AngelX's newest features include upgraded support for phishing attacks on newer blockchains such as TON, which are generally less secure.
Additionally, these new apps deployed using AngelX are largely able to avoid detection by other crypto security providers.
