This past week was "Dekkerfest" -- the one weekend of the year when we are with Dave's entire family for roughly 48 hours.
If you have an annual family gathering, I highly recommend coming up with a fun name for it... also, plan to let yourself sleep in extra long the day after! ๐
simple food. Fresh sweet corn, tomatoes, and green peppers mixed with avocados, cilantro, and a little lime juice -- it's basically summer in a bowl and it tastes great as a salad, a dip for chips, or as a side dish to almost anything!
organized home. The start of another school year means 'back to routines' for me (which I love!) Learn how to utilize 3 simple routines to get (and keep) your home clean & decluttered in less time.
intentional living. If you're a bit stressed about finding your back-to-school groove... I've got some encouragement for you. Plus, 3 tips that will hopefully help alleviate any back-to-school anxiety (for you and the kids!) ๐
In other news...
School Snacks:
In the past, the kids kept a small container of snacks in their lockers, but this year, we've decided on one giant snack bin in the pantry, next to their lunch containers, that they can pull from every day.
We restocked it this week and the kids are all getting excited to choose their favorites next week!
Football Season:
Dave and I had no interest in football. We never watched football on TV. We didn't talk about football. We hoped our boys wouldn't want to play football. We heavily encouraged them to play various other sports outside of football... and yet, from the time they were 5 years old, they have been counting down the days until 3rd grade when they can play football through our high school's program.
This week, James officially joined Simon in the start of another football season... they could hardly contain their excitement to go together!
Another Good Book
As a self-proclaimed "Jill of all Trades, Master of None" I've enjoyed reading Master of One by Jordan Raynor.
He hasn't totally "sold" me on his idea that we should all master one task instead of spreading our time between lots of different tasks. However, it has opened my eyes to some ways my "Jill of all Trades" personality is sometimes inefficient and may even be holding me back from my full potential.
Have you read the book? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Garden Blooms
These are from our yard! Pink and white hydrangeas... the purple "balls" are ornamental onions (a bigger version of chives, but smaller than allium and one of my favorite late summer flowers).
Have a great week!
