I've wanted a tree swing since the day we purchased our farmhouse, but we had much bigger projects to tackle first. Plus, I never felt like we had the "right tree" to make it happen. However, this past spring, we had all our giant trees pruned and the guy assured me I could make a tree swing work on one particular limb.
I finally hung my DIY swing last week!
About a month ago, I purchased a giant 3 foot-long, 2" thick chunk of hard maple from a local guy who mills it right on his property. I sanded, stained, and sealed it with several coats of exterior polyurethane. I purchased the tree swing hanging straps recommended by our tree guy, and found the exact rope I wanted to use... but it wasn't available anywhere.
I waited and waited, and finally got the rope last week (it's now unavailable again).
The kids have already had so much fun on our tree swing, and I get so much satisfaction every time I see it hanging in our front tree.
One more thing checked off my bucket list! ✔︎
simple food. Late July is HOT, and this super easy ice cream dessert is a fantastic way to beat the heat! Start with your favorite ice cream sandwiches and you'll have this dessert ready for the freezer in 10 minutes!
organized home. I like my kitchen to be clean and organized... and I want it to smell nice too. These super simple DIY garbage disposal cleaning tabs will bring a deliciously fresh citrus scent to your kitchen and clean your garbage disposal too!
intentional living. I smiled while re-reading this archived post that still perfectly articulates how I feel about my life -- continually plowing through the average mundaneness of everday life and enjoying (almost) every moment. 😉
In other news...
Olympics:
We purchased a month subscription to Peacock so we have access to all things Olympics. The kids are most into gymnastics, swimming, and beach volleyball -- definitely $8 well spent!
Summer Reading:
I listened to Kisses From Katie again (I read it years ago) and was re-inspired by her amazing story. I'm hoping to listen to a few more of Katie's books before school starts up again.
I can't remember if I shared Well Said with you yet -- I read it this spring and phrases from the book continue popping back into my head. It's a wonderful read.
The Secret Garden -- a childhood favorite that I re-read almost every summer. Nora read it too and we watched the movie a few weeks ago.
A Podcast:
A friend of mine is encouraging me to start a podcast (she actually already helped me choose the name and acquire the domain 😬). I'm excited about the idea, but not sure I want to start something new.
My thought is that I could do some Q&A's at some point in each episode... so I'd love to have your questions. You may submit them here (leave your name or submit it anonymously) and hopefully, someday soon, I'll answer them on my new podcast!
That's all for this week... and tomorrow is already August, which means class lists are coming out!!!
Enjoy the heat!
