And so it begins 🌋 Mt.Gox is finally starting to send out Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash repayments to creditors.
Earlier, the defunct exchange had moved around 47K BTC, worth approximately $2.7B, to an unmarked address, according to blockchain analytics platform Arkham Intelligence.
Combined with further sell-offs from the German government, the price of BTC has continued to slide further from the $57K mark to a low of $53.9K today.
BCH has also fallen significantly today by 17%, plunging from $357.58 to $295.95 as of the time of writing.
Based on data from CoinGlass, the amount of liquidations has increased significantly over the past 24 hours, more than doubling from $320M yesterday to $670M as of the time of writing.
Although most of these liquidations consisted of long positions, close to $100M worth of short positions were also wiped out. Editor's Note: While it seems like a terrible time for Mt.Gox to start their repayments, this is probably the best situation that anyone could have hoped for. Releasing a large amount of Bitcoin into the market after prices have gone down significantly will likely disincentivize claimers from selling down further, but also presents an opportunity for willing buyers who are ready to accumulate at lower prices. |

Another option for Bitcoin HODLERs 📜 The RWA tokenization platform Hamilton has launched the first tokenized US treasury bills on Bitcoin L2s such as Core, Build on Bitcoin (BoB), and Stacks.
By taking advantage of the fast transactions and lower gas costs offered by Bitcoin L2s, Hamilton hopes to offer better scalability and liquidity for their tokenized product, known as Hamilton US T-Bills (HUST).
The tokenized assets will soon be available across other Bitcoin-based networks such as Arch Network, Botanix, and Bitlayer.
Despite the slowdown within the Bitcoin ecosystem, Hamilton hopes that their tokenized assets will allow more users to access and trade government bonds on Bitcoin. |
