This is 5.7 times more than the 0.44 million tokens around at the end of 2021. | | | The mad, mad rush for Runes ✒️ The fourth Bitcoin halving has been completed, and with that, the Runes protocol is finally live. Miners competed fiercely for the privilege of mining the first block of the halving, containing 'epic sats', which have only been generated four times thus far. These 'epic sats' are 100x rarer than 'rare sats', and one has been auctioned through Sotheby's for over $100,000. The hype and anticipation surrounding Casey Rodarmor's latest token standard led to an intense battle to mint the first Runes post-halving, generating millions in fees for miners.
In fact, 9 of the top 10 most valuable blocks were mined after the recent halving, with the first block capturing $2.6M in fees and block rewards. The first Runes project to be minted was of course, the UNCOMMON - GOODS, created by Rodarmor, the original creator of Ordinals.
Since then, Bitcoin users have created hundreds of Runes projects and made close to 1M Rune transactions. Editor's Take: Even with influencers hyping up the Runes protocol before the halving, the post-launch hype has since plummeted, as evidenced by the drop in BTC transaction fees. Much like Ordinals, it may take some time for a strong community to be built and maintained in order to attract attention to the ecosystem. | | | If you're looking for a powerhouse mobile crypto wallet that has wide support for Ordinals and BRC-20s, check out this OKX Mobile wallet guide. | | | The house always wins π° It's not the only way to lose money to a casino.
The decentralized GambleFi project Zkasino is now in hot water after converting $33M of ETH from users into its own native token, ZKAS, and sending the ETH to Lido.
Over the weekend, Zkasino announced the launch of their own chain, prompting more than 100,000 users to bridge over 10K ETH in an attempt to earn a larger allocation of ZKAS tokens.
However, depositors were in for a rude awakening after the team deviated from their initial plans, stating that the bridged ETH would be converted into ZKAS at a discounted rate of $0.055, with a 15-month vesting period.
The protocol has also boldly claimed that the changes were made 'as a favour' to promote a 'seamless transition and superior user experience,'
Sharp-eyed users also noticed that the wording on the ZKasino bridge website had been changed to remove any indication that the deposited ETH would be returned.
Several affected users are now seeking legal action against the founder, Ildar Elham, otherwise known as Derivatives Monke on X. | | | | Celebrate CoinGecko's 10th Year Anniversary with us with weekly giveaways in April, and learn more about our anniversary partners, Zeebu, Polkadot and Pixels! | | | | Learn about Runes, a new protocol that lets users create fungible tokens on the Bitcoin blockchain. | | | In Other News...
