Beranda » Tanpa Label » The podcasts on my playlist (+ pie for Pi Day!)
What a week! Last week's calendar was filled with many good and fun activities, but I'm thankful this week is a little slower.
Lots of time at home, playing with neighbors, cleaning up the yard, letting the sun shine in through freshly washed windows, baking bread, and enjoying ordinary days.
Simple Food.
Tomorrow is Pi Day (3.14) so our math-loving family is celebrating with Chocolate Peanut Butter pie. If you're into celebrating weird math days (or just want another excuse for pie) I have lots of easy and delicious pie recipes on the blog!
Every year, after I file our taxes and get the refund, I go through all our paperwork and photos and important documents -- tossing, recycling, shredding, filing, and organizing our paper for another year. It always sounds overwhelming, but then I get started and am done before I know it.
One of my favorite ways to "multitask" is to listen to uplifting, educational, and sometimes just funny podcasts while I fold laundry, wash dishes, make dinner, pull weeds, or take the dog for a walk. Here are some of my favorites!
A free local conference: Speaking of podcasts, one of my favorite podcasters and authors (Sheila from Bare Marriage) is a speaker for the Sexuality Series at my alma mater, Calvin University, today and tomorrow, March 13/14.
I'm planning to attend tomorrow night's session and thought I'd share since many of you are local readers.
It's free and there's no RSVP -- just show up if you're interested!
A Year of Buster: In addition to Pi Day, tomorrow is Buster's first birthday!
It's officially been one year since we got the phone call that our much-anticipated puppy had arrived... a.k.a. the day I became the "best mom ever". 🤦🏼♀️
Truthfully, I still don't have much good to say about pet ownership, but I'll try to focus on the positives -- he is very cute, I'm getting 2 walks in almost every day, and the kids love playing with him for 5 whole minutes after they get home from school. 🙄
Happy Birthday, Buster Brown.
A tribute to a dear friend: Last week, my beloved online friend, Sarah Turner of Clover Lane, passed away after battling cancer for several years.
I've talked about Sarah and her family, home, ideas, etc. often over the last 15 years, and I know many of you followed her at one point too (she hadn't blogged much lately). She was such a wonderful mentor.
Although Sarah was nearly 20 years older than me, we often joked about how similar we were -- homebodies with a passion for simplicity, organization, family meals, and ordinary days with our kids. We both loved clipping hydrangeas from our yard and bringing them inside, we both needed a paper list, we were both way too invested in making family photo albums, and we both detested social media (and the general direction of online content these days).
Our mile-long text thread is something I'll enjoy re-reading for years to come... and I'll forever smile whenever I stumble upon the lovely and encouraging guest post she wrote for me after Nora was born (The 3 Most Important Lessons I've Learned About Being a Mom).
Sarah was a beloved mother and friend and will be deeply missed by her 6 children and so many others.
Since Sarah disliked being in pictures, I'll share a favorite cross stitch instead. ♡
Our Meal Plan:
Pizza pasta, garlic bread, steamed broccoli, fruit
