On The Blog: Jumpstart productive days with intentional evening routines. We've had 4 snow days since last week's email, and I'm thankful our family enjoys being home together all day (for the most part!) 😉 While we've been cooped up at home, I've enjoyed reorganizing, rearranging, and repurposing various spaces in our home -- all without spending any money... For example: I used a wooden game board (turned upside down) to corral a bunch of my kitchen favorites and now have a lovely area next to my sink. Keep scrolling to see what I did with my cast iron pans and our music/instruments! Simple Food. One of the best cold weather comfort foods around -- chicken noodle soup -- and I've got a delicious, from-scratch recipe you can whip up in 30 minutes or less! Try my recipe --> 30 Minute Chicken Noodle Soup Organized Home. One of the most important factors in home organization is that your spaces serve YOU and your current stage/season of life. You can copy how magazines, home shows, and Instagram influencers organize their spaces, but you likely won't be able to replicate it exactly as you have a different home, a different routine, and different needs. Create spaces that serve you, and they will be so much easier to maintain! Learn more --> How to Create Spaces that Serve You. Intentional Living. Do your mornings feel rushed and chaotic? Do your days feel like they fly away with little to nothing to show for them? Do you constantly feel like you're running behind or playing "catch-up"? If so, your best bet might be to focus on your evening routine... let me show you why (and how!) Keep reading --> Productive Days Start with Intentional Evening Routines. In other news... Eight... and a half: James is officially 8.5... and per our "half-birthday tradition", he got to choose a special dessert that I make and cut in half. However, at 8.5, we arrange both halves to look like half an 8. James chose this delicious Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe, which I made in a springform pan, cut in half, and served warm with ice cream and toppings. Yum! Homemade Pretzels: Apparently, when we're snowed in, we bake! Nora wanted to try homemade soft pretzels, so we did. We used this recipe and they turned out amazingly delicious. We're planning to make them again this weekend (some savory, some with cinnamon/sugar!) Cast Iron "Art": I use my cast iron pans multiple times each day, so they're always out on my stovetop. I don't love the look of my pan-covered stove... so I'm not sure why it took me YEARS to come up with the simple idea of hanging them on the wall above my stove. Last week (on one of the snow days) I woke up with this idea, grabbed some old barn wood in our basement, and 45 minutes later, I had a clutter-free stovetop AND a cool feature wall in my kitchen -- all for free! A Music + Tech. Closet: those of you who have followed along for a while, know that we have a really fun/awkward closet under our stairs in our office/music room. I've arranged and rearranged this closet to serve dozens of different purposes over the years. It's been office storage, a play area, a cozy reading nook, storage for games and puzzles, a craft zone... and now, our music + tech closet. Thanks to some hooks, a bookshelf, a peg board, and a power strip we already had in the house, we now have an organized space for all our piano bags, music books, large instruments, our printer, a few office supplies, and a device charging station. New Rugs: It's been 12 years since I purchased the braided rugs for our kitchen renovation (and various other spaces in our home) and I decided it was finally time to replace my torn, dirty, faded rugs. I also wanted larger rugs in our mudroom to help control the slushy snow mess. Unlike my other projects, these rugs were not free, but I used Christmas money from my parents to upgrade ALL our rugs -- Merry Christmas to me! Here are a few pictures... this is the color/style I purchased. Weekly Meal Plan (lots of comfort food!)
I hope you're able to create a doable evening routine this week! Blessings, |
