Coinbase and Coinbase Asset Management have unveiled 'Project Diamond', an innovative smart contract-driven platform facilitating institutions to create, manage, purchase, and sell various digitally native assets directly on-chain.

Initially catering to registered institutional users outside the U.S., Project Diamond leverages Coinbase Prime custody, Coinbase's web3 wallet, the USDC stablecoin, and the Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain Base, which was incubated by Coinbase, according to the announcement.

In other news, Donald Trump introduces a new series of digital trading cards, Celestia integrates its data availability layer with Polygon Lab's CDK, and KuCoin settles a state lawsuit, agreeing to pay $22 million.

Only 62 (52.1%) of the 119 countries where cryptocurrency is legal have comprehensive regulations. This number has gone up by 53.2% since 2018 when only 33 jurisdictions had cryptocurrency regulations.

Among the 62 countries with established regulations, 36 (58.0%) are individual countries, 22 (35.5%) are part of the European Union (EU), and 4 (6.5%) are British Overseas Territories.

Trump NFTs

Former President Donald Trump is shaking up his latest NFT sales pitch by introducing a fresh set of digital trading cards.

Dubbed the 'Mugshot Edition,' these trading cards are priced at $99 each. Moreover, purchasers of 47 cards in a single transaction totaling $4,653 will secure a chance for dinner with Trump and receive a physical trading card featuring a piece of the suit worn during his Georgia mugshot after his indictment in August.

KuCoin's Exit

Court documents from the Supreme Court of New York County on Tuesday revealed that crypto exchange KuCoin has agreed to pay a total of $22 million and cease operations for users residing in New York State.

As part of the settlement, KuCoin will refund $16.77 million to its New York customers and allocate $5.3 million to the State of New York's Attorney General. This resolves allegations of violating securities laws by offering tokens, including Ether, deemed as securities without proper registration with the attorney general's office.

Celestia is set to integrate its data availability layer with Polygon Labs' chain development kit, an open-source codebase specifically utilized for Layer 2 chain development.

This integration will introduce a tailored data availability solution to Layer 2 projects leveraging Polygon CDK. Key projects benefiting from this include OKX, Immutable, Astar, IDEX, Palm Network, among others. The goal is to potentially lower gas fees for these projects within Polygon 2.0—an ecosystem of interconnected Layer 2 chains.
