Rural Champions, Join us for Part 2 of our summer series on speed! The National Center for Rural Road Safety and NLTAPA Safety Work Group are co-hosting a FREE, 1.5-hour online webinar entitled What's Speed Got to do With It: Speed Awareness Initiatives. This webinar will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2023 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm Mountain/1:00 pm to 2:30 pm Eastern. In this webinar, we will speak with experts on speed awareness initiatives including: - Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police (ILACP) Speed Awareness Day Initiative - In 2016, the ILACP founded Speed Awareness Day. Speed Awareness Day combined statewide enforcement efforts with public and private partnerships to address the issue of excessive speeding in Illinois and the deadly impact speeding has on traffic safety. The goal of the ILACP was to build and coordinate high visibility and focused enforcement along with public outreach and education to reduce crashes, prevent injuries and most importantly, to save lives. In 2022, Speed Awareness Day expanded to include all states within NHTSA Region 5, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. In 2023, the initiative once again expanded to include NHTSA Region 7 states of Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.
