The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) stance on cryptocurrencies has caused a lot of uncertainties in regards to the regulation of cryptocurrencies.

Binance US, the United States-based arm of the popular cryptocurrency exchange, has engaged in negotiations with the SEC to avoid total asset freeze of cryptocurrencies in the event that the exchange has to be shut down.

On the other hand, the SEC has given a 120 day deadline to respond to Coinbase's request for clarity in regards to cryptocurrency regulation .

The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) of Hong Kong introduced its Virtual Asset Trading Platform (VATP) handbook at the start of the month in an effort to establish its position as the next crypto hub.
