SVB Contagion in Crypto Following the meltdown of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), numerous crypto companies disclosed their exposure to the once go-to bank for start-ups. The bank's collapse marked the second largest bank failure in the United States, trailing only the Great Financial Crisis in 2008. Large crypto companies such as BlockFi, Circle, Avalanche, Yuga Labs, and Proof were among the crypto names that had exposure to now-shuttered Silicon Valley Bank. It's the fourth consecutive month with trading volumes on an uptrend, increasing 91.9% MoM from January 2023, which saw only $987.9 million worth of NFTs being traded, to $1.89 billion last month! Thou Shall Not Pass Cryptocurrency exchange Binance announced that it would temporarily suspend British pound sterling deposits and withdrawals. The news comes after its U.K.-based partner for on- and off-ramp GBP Skrill Limited stopped its support for the currency. Customers would still be able to engage with GBP on Binance's platform until May 22, where the service would be halted. Decrypt Major Banks Remain (For Now) Crypto conglomerate Digital Currency Group (DCG) issued a statement which indicated that major banks were still willing to partner with crypto firms. Some names that were mentioned included Santander (SAN), HSBC (HSBA), Deutsche Bank (DB), BankProv, Bridge Bank, Mercury, Multis and Series Financial. The conglomerate's initiative comes after several banking failures which saw crypto and tech start-ups looking for new banking partners. CoinDesk DeFi Up! Amidst the chaos of the depegging of Circle's USDC stablecoin, several decentralized finance players recorded impressive numbers. Decentralized stablecoin exchange Curve Finance recorded $6 billion in trading volume over the weekend with its 3pool consisting of USDC, USDT and DAI accounting for 80% of the activity. Similarly, fellow decentralized exchange Uniswap saw its WETH-USDC pool reach $8.8 billion in trading volume over the past week, recording activity across 100,000 users.
