Quitting My Country | | We've been busy asking people across 122 countries whether they would permanently leave their country of residence, if they could. While nearly 900 million people across the planet say they would like to, here are the countries with the highest rates of those ready to say goodbye for good. Read Article | | 2. Ukraine: New War, Old Problems | | With all the cheering and support from Western capitals for Ukrainians as they fight Russia, the government in Kyiv has been on its heels recently with a considerable purge of key officials, many due to corruption allegations. This is likely no surprise to Ukrainians; even at the height of patriotic fervor last fall, nearly three in four said government corruption was widespread. | | 3. America's ESG Report Card | | The grades are in, and America is giving some low ones to U.S. businesses in several major areas of focus for the ESG movement. With young adults particularly circumspect, few Americans give U.S. businesses a passing grade on each of five ESG touchstones. Most notably, businesses are not measuring up when it comes to focusing on long-term benefits to society over short-term profits, creating opportunities for less privileged communities, and promoting DEI. Ethiopians Struggling to Afford Food, Again | | After two years of a brutal and destructive civil war, Ethiopians are once again unable to afford the food they need — to a degree not seen at any point in a decade. Two in three Ethiopians say they were unable to afford food in the past 12 months. But it's not just hunger, it's hope itself that's collapsing. Ethiopians' expectations for their lives in the coming five years have fallen to nearly record lows. | | 5. Healthcare as Government's Responsibility? | | The biggest national expenditure in America is healthcare. Nothing else comes close. Yet, Americans' views have fluctuated over the years on exactly who is responsible for ensuring that all Americans are covered. Today's 57% saying it's the government's responsibility is a departure from the high in 2006 when millions more shared that view. But, not so fast — Americans' views on the issue depend on whom you ask, with Democrats and Republicans diametrically opposed. Read Article | | And that's The Week in Charts!
