Welcome to The Week in Charts, where we break down Gallup's latest insights on our constantly evolving world. Here are the five insights you shouldn't miss this week: | 1. Trust in Media Stuck in the Mud | | Our annual update on Americans' trust and confidence in the mass media exposes two undercurrents: 1) Most Americans are skeptical that the media reports the news "fully, accurately and fairly," and 2) Democrats are the big exception. We saw a previously smaller partisan divide widen in the mid-2000s before exploding at the start of the Trump era in 2016, and it hasn't let up. Read Article | | 2. Ukraine's Spirit to Fight | | In the midst of war, we've been asking Ukrainians about the conflict that has upended their world and left thousands dead. When asked whether Ukraine should negotiate to end the war as soon as possible or continue fighting, most Ukrainians — even in the Eastern regions witnessing the most bloodshed — want to see their country fight until victory is achieved. Do Businesses Meet Our Expectations? | | In partnership with Bentley University, we asked Americans what kind of impact they see businesses having on society, both where businesses do well and where they fall short. The study highlights the nuances the public sees when judging the effects of differently sized businesses on their life and the planet. Read Article | | 4. Road to the Ballot Box | | As Election Day approaches this fall, we've looked at where the public stands on six election-law policies that have changed the voting experience over the past decade. While most Americans support requiring voters to show photo ID, they otherwise side with simplifying the process and removing barriers. Read Article | | 5. How Good Is the World's Diet? | | With much of the world facing a crisis of both cost of and access to food, the Global Diet Quality Project and Gallup have been asking people across 41 countries about the foods they consume. While the study highlights many troubling signs for people's diets, some of the most concerning data are the large majorities of adults in many African countries who fall short of regularly consuming a balanced diet. In 34 of the 41 countries surveyed, less than half of the population is consuming diets that contain all five food groups that are commonly recommended for daily consumption in food-based dietary guidelines worldwide.
